During March 2023, Taliban forces (currently governing Afghanistan) raided weapons depots and IED workshops of the Islamic State, where they found old standard weapons, explosives, IEDs and equipment for assembling them. In addition to these seizures, a new supply of state-of-the-art weapons to the group was documented more recently, and it is evident the Taliban’s targeting of Islamic State militants in Afghanistan has prompted the start of the production of IEDs in advanced configurations for effective utilization.
