On October 17, 2022, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps revealed for the first time its tube-launched loitering munition, the Meraj-521, which can be rapidly deployed by a single person or a small squad. This loitering munition is comparable with other tube-launched loitering munitions, such as the Switchblade-300, which has received extensive attention since its deployment in Ukraine, significantly enhancing the capabilities of a small fighting force and capable of being deployed from almost any terrain. An inexpensive weapon, the remotely-guided payload can be employed with high precision to attack infantry or lightly-armored targets. It is possible Iran will export this loitering munition to other actors in the future.
